Description:
The 1931 photo shows an Alaska Road Commission crew building the Denali Park Road near mile 61. The crew is on Stony Hill and facing east. The lower Stony Alaska Road Commission camp is visible in the middle-right of the frame. In the 2001 photo, there is no sign of the camp, and the current road alignment is just behind the photographer. Soils on Stony Hill proved to be difficult for road building and much gravel was required to make it a stable roadbed. Do you see any changes that have occurred on the stream bed or the slopes of the mountain?
