Description:
This photo pair features the site of the former Camp Eielson, at the site of the current Eielson Visitor Center. Originally established in 1932 by the Mt. McKinley Tourist and Transportation Company as a picnic camp where visitors arriving by automobile could stop for lunch, it also housed overnight visitors from 1939-1941. After being purchased by the Alaska Railroad in 1942, the camp was used only intermittently. By 1954, dismantling of the camp had begun.
