This pair of technical aerial photos shows a variety of changes in the Denali National Park and Preserve headquarters vicinity during the period 1949-2004, including substantial development of infrastructure. Park headquarters is visible to the left of the stream, Rock Creek. C-Camp, the seasonal housing area, and the park maintenance yard is visible on the right side of Rock Creek. You can orient yourself to the two photos by using the small yellow dots, which are located in the same location on the ground on both images. Other clearly evident changes over this time period are in-filling of trees and dramatic closing of the forest canopy over this period, along with increases in the amount of vegetation on the floodplain of Rock Creek. The patches of aspen trees (clearly visible as light-green color in the 2004 photo) were established following a wildfire that occurred in 1924.
