Description:
The 1908 photo was taken by Charles Sheldon, a hunter-naturalist from the eastern United States who first came to the Denali area in 1906 to study the wildlife and collect specimens for scientific research. The dall sheep ram pictured here was one such specimen. The 2008 photo captures a changed landscape, not only because of the thickening of the forest and the increase in shrublines on the mountain slopes across the Toklat River, but because this area now lies within the 6 million acre Denali National Park and Preserve.
