This photo pair shows dramatic changes in the vegetation at Sable Pass along the Park Road over an almost 80-year interval from the 1930's to 2010. Note the establishments of many shrub thickets on the slope facing the camera. The area appears to have been primarily moist alpine tundra at the time of the first photo, but large areas have converted to shrubland over the interval. The shrubs in this area are primarily willows (Salix spp.).
