Increasing vegetation on river barsAnimation is available
This photo pair shows an area just outside the Park boundary in Broad Pass, including a jeep trail that was cut to access the Silver King Mine near Colorado Creek. The large floodplain seen in these images is the West Fork of the Chulitna River. One apparent change that has occurred between these two image dates is the establishment of a large patch of vegetation on the river bar that can bee seen near the top, center of the frame. This new vegetation likely consists of willows (Salix spp.) and cottonwood trees (Populus spp.) that develops on floodplains early in succession.
