Description:
This photo pair features the view from the top of "Government Hill", the steep hill that climbs towards Park Headquarters near Milepost 2 on the Park Road. The Riley Creek Railroad Trestle is visible in the middle right of the frame as a straight, dark line. Notice the difference in the forest? A wildfire swept through this area in 1924, so the 1929 photo shows what appear to be fire damaged trees and a relatively thin forest. Fire suppression has allowed the area to transition to more of a mixed-deciduous spruce forest over time.
