This photo pair features a section of the park road as it traverses the Eielson Bluffs. In this photo pair, note that one culvert was originally installed to drain the slope to the right, while later two culverts and a retaining wall had to be installed to keep the roadbed in its current position. Although there is an increase in shrub growth in that small drainage, what is remarkable is how stable the slope in the upper left side of the photograph actually is. The distinctive pattern of vegetation is nearly the same 80 years later, while if you look at it closely it appears it may breakup and slide down the slope at any moment.
