*This description was written by teachers who visited the park in June 2012 to learn about communicating climate change. At milepost 53 looking west from the Toklat Bridge the photos spanning 43 years show a noticeable increase in willow and low growing vegetation moving up the entire slope. Ground cover reaches 80% up the slope in 2001 compared to 50% in 1958. Note the ranger station in the lower right hand corner of photos. Change in spruce cover is barely noticeable as compared to the increase in willow and low growing vegetation. A field visit in 2012 showed further extension of low ground cover up to 90% of the slope.
